Scientific and Practical Visit to the Russian Federation on Current Issues in Medical Genetics

I, Shokhista Abdkhalilovna Islomova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Histology and Medical Biology No. 1, participated in advanced training courses in the specialty “Medical Genetics” at the N.P. Bochkov Medical Genetic Research Center (Moscow, Russian Federation) from June 23 to July 20, 2024.

During this scientific and practical internship, I strengthened my theoretical and practical knowledge in key areas of modern medical genetics, including the molecular-genetic basis of hereditary diseases, early diagnostic methods, and innovative treatment technologies.

The following topics were studied in detail during the training:

  • Pathogenesis of monogenic and polygenic hereditary diseases;

  • Detection of chromosomal abnormalities using cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods;

  • Modern laboratory diagnostic techniques such as PCR, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and molecular marker analysis;

  • Prenatal and neonatal screening systems;

  • Principles of genetic counseling in hereditary diseases;

  • The importance of personalized medicine and genomic analysis in clinical practice.

During practical sessions in the research center’s laboratories, I gained hands-on experience in working with biological samples, interpreting genetic analysis results, and conducting comprehensive clinical case assessments. I also became acquainted with modern approaches in hereditary metabolic disorders, oncogenetics, and reproductive genetics.

Within the framework of the visit, I also toured several specialized clinics and medical institutions in Moscow, where I familiarized myself with their diagnostic laboratories, clinical departments, and patient management processes. These visits allowed me to study the integration of clinical practice and scientific research, multidisciplinary treatment approaches, and the implementation of high-tech medical care.

The training program was organized in the format of scientific seminars, clinical case discussions, round tables, and professional exchanges with specialists. The knowledge and skills acquired will significantly contribute to improving the educational process at the department, introducing students to modern achievements in medical genetics, and advancing research activities.

In conclusion, the advanced training course at the N.P. Bochkov Medical Genetic Research Center enhanced my professional competencies, supported the implementation of innovative technologies in medical genetics practice, and strengthened international scientific cooperation.
